Fakebook: A Tale of the Ultimate E-Slap.
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural

ayo!

i’m in studio right now & hopping in and out of the booth right now so forgive me if this blog is a bit all over the place at times. but i feel it’s my duty as an abused citizen to share my tale with you.

so here’s my issue.

i have been an avid facebook user, nay, a supporter since the early days before they went corporate and sold out to the application monster. i’ve enjoyed it’s many features & have even spread the word to some of my apprehensive friends & encouraged them to join. i would like to think that i was (pre-this blog) an exemplary facebook user. if there were gold stars to be given from the facebook staff, it’s my belief that i would have at least three on my bulletin board. i have even been so brash & risked offending papa myspace (aka, Tom) by placing a large facebook advertisement on my myspace page, so as to provide non-myspace users & the like with another outlet to contact & stay in touch with me and vice versa.

but before we move on, let’s take a look at their mission statement:

Facebook: “Facebook is a social utility that helps
people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family and
coworkers.”

so now, straight to the point of my saga. i breached a plateau of facebook exposure this week by hitting the 5,000 friend mark. an achievement not only for me & all of my fb buddies, (you guys!), but one that i feel like facebook would be proud of. my way of tipping off my hat to the big boys in corporate to say, “hey fellas, i believe in your site. thanks for coming out. myspace isn’t the only successful website with a big blue & white logo.” they then proceeded to e-smack me across the face by letting me know that i will no longer be able to accept any more friend requests. wha?? their way of saying - “hello faithful customer, thank you for using & supporting our friend network. now stop having friends.” ridiculous! a joke! a direct contradiction to their mission statement! mission-statement-impossible! i didn’t see the part in the mission statement about..

Facebook: “Facebook is a social utility that helps
people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family and
coworkers. (until they reach 5,000 friends, which is when we officially stop helping people communicate efficiently & start discriminating against our gold-star users.)”

anyway, i am expressing my extreme dissapointment in facebook by.. starting another facebook page. i know, i’m a rebel. which is really the purpose of this blog. go check out my new “musician page” which allows me to add an unlimited number of friends. (let’s just say i’ll believe that one when i pass 5,000 on this page). click below to add me.

anyway, i’m psyched. just recorded 3 of the best songs i’ve ever written/been a part of, ever. can’t wait for you guys to hear. back to the booth!

love you. peace.

trav.

Knife Fights, Grammy Night & the Gas Station From God.

yo!

what a crazyyyy long weekend.. where to begin?

the debutante ball.

what a strange concept, i must say. from what i pieced together.. it seems to be some sort of high-class gathering, where everyone gets really dressed up just to er, get really dressed up. parents pay large sums of money for their girls to participate (not to mention for dresses, makeup, hair, tickets.. etc.), to walk across a stage, throw down a mean curtsy & have their name called out over the loudspeaker. a bit uneventful & pointless, and yet strangely entertaining. after 30 girls walked onstage, i think we were all hoping for someone to eat it on the curtsy. or maybe just i was hoping? haha, anyway, someone did! she took it like a champ though. it definitely made the highlight reel. then there was food.. a dance.. waltzing.. a knife fight.. eh, not really. would’ve been cool though. that was mostly it. it was a fun time. baby sis did great & looked beautiful.

hopped on a flight back to LA on sunday morning. didn’t go to the grammy’s.. but i did go to a couple of the parties. sunday night was the interscope party. it was a good time.. always good to see friends.. producers, artists, staff, etc. will.i.am was running the dj booth with timbaland.. i think pharrell was even up there at one point. it was nuts. the guest list was crazy! some of the highlights included: beatboxing to the soulfoul sounds of andy milonakis. haha he was freestyling! boy can spit!! seeing blink 182.. together again! i’m not one to get starstruck.. but i won’t lie, that was pretty cool to see them all together in person.

the next night was some grammy house party in the hills hosted by katy perry. a little bit of a lame hollywood scene, but i still had fun. this one cougar lady in leopard print who was like 55 kept trying to rip my clothes off & drag me out to dance with her. it was a little strange & maybe a little scarring for me in the long term, but nonetheless extremely fun & highly entertaining. lol. my boy introduced me to katy & i walked away with a bag full of shwagg. :) not to mention i bumped into andy milonakis again. another beatbox/ rhymefest proceeded to go down. haha! also, i got to meet this awesome chick from denmark who was a big NLT fan. so random, but so cool!

the highlight of the weekend however.. was a completely unplanned, unexpected trip to the interplanetary gas station. just… a random gas station down in west hollywood made out of space materials! (or something similar..)

what a strange fascinating place. i took a few pictures because i felt like it might’ve been a mirage or something, or like the room of requirement.. like it was too good to be true & if i drove by the same spot tomorrow, it would just be a busted old arco. i also felt like Lights might’ve been born there. and who needs sophisticated terms like “unleaded” and “premium” when you can keep it simple with good old fashioned four letter words like “good”. and then better…and then best!

yes this town has its many downfalls.. but it is a great, great city that we can find a rare metallic gas station from jupiter right down on robertson boulevard. well done hollywood, i applaud your originality.

that’s all. love you guys. :)

peace.

ps: hov & coldplay killed it. justin w/ al green was dope too!

The Side Effects of a Radio-Suck Depression.

what’s up fam. :)

been feeling a little uninspired lately.. largely due to the radio. i don’t know about yall.. but i have to admit that i’m SO tired of hearing the same pop song… on every artist.. on every station. they all sound the same to me. the ol’ 808 & a clap, recycled melody, hook-that’s-repeated-too-many-times. it’s such a formula! one that i admittedly have even fallen into myself before. honestly, it bummed me out for a while, so much that i didn’t even feel like getting in the studio or writing new material.

it definitely took me a minute, but i recovered from my radio-suck depression. actually, for the first time in a long time, i feel hella inspired! it’s caused me to rebel against the typical pop-synth-dance music that fascinated me so intensely a few months ago. I’ve really branched out & have been tapping into a lot of genre’s & influences that before now.. i never even thought about experimenting with. swing music.. a lot of old soul/motown inspired stuff.. delta blues.. alternative… reggae.. etc. not to freak yall out, i won’t be recording a bluegrass record anytime soon! lol. but rather, just fusing elements of these different genres with pop to create something fresh and different. something that doesn’t sound like “i wanna make love right na na na na na…” (no disrespect to akon, because he’s so dope. but you get my point?) it’s so good to see an artist like jazmine sullivan doing well. i love lady gaga killing pop radio right now. artists who dare to be different, i love that.

that’s mostly it for right now. just been getting into writing & recording some exciting new stuff.. cannot wait to play it for you guys. was sick a few weeks ago, thanks everybody for the get well wishes, i’m better now. glad to see you guys love Stranded!

anyway, gotta make a quick trip home to texas over the weekend to watch baby sis be a “debutante”. not sure what that’s about.. but i’ll fill you in once this concept is better-explained to me.

this may well be the longest blog i’ve ever posted.. but, i did mention that i was gonna try & keep yall in the loop. don’t say i didn’t warn you. :):)

love you all.
